Silver Linings Playbook Just Misses Being Oscar Worthy

poster for the film Silver Linings PlaybookMovies about people with mental illnesses isn’t my usual thing unless it is a documentary. Family dysfunction played for laughs can be entertaining. I liked Silver Lining Playbook even though the main plot wasn’t my usual taste. Bradley Cooper and Jennifer Lawrence did a good job. I don’t think the film is worthy of the Oscar nominations it got but it was worth the money I spent on the ticket which is a good thing.

As A Random Netflix Pick, Cashback Is A Nice Surprise

The usual TV shows I watch were in repeats so I did what I usually do and pick a film to stream on Netflix. “Cashback”, written and directed by Sean Ellis was my pick, just based on the blurb, but by the end of the film I was surprised at how warm and human it turned out. I enjoyed it and recommend it for anyone looking for a smart adult comedy-drama with a twist of sci-fi.

“Get Over It” is a nice little gem

Poster for the 2001 comedy Get Over It Late night movies on TV usually consist of years old blockbusters or straight to DVD crap. The other night WGN America showed the 2001 high school romantic comedy “Get Over It” and afterward I wondered how I missed this when it came to the theaters. From the funny title sequence to the musical number before the end credits the cast of then relatively unknowns make “Get Over It” a fun time.
