There wasn’t anything on TV the other night so I ended up watching a couple of episodes of the new reality/comedy show ‘Never Ever Do This At Home‘. On first blush it just seemed like a total waste of time but then after thinking some more the show actually serves a purpose. It shows people who may lack common sense what happens when you goof around with different products. I think the show will only appeal to young men who don’t know any better – the perfect demographic for the Spike TV channel but it isn’t worthless.

The Taste Is A Cooking Contest That Levels The Playing Field

logo for the show The TasteSinging talent shows not only allowed little to no talent singers to get on TV, it also made the competition format a trendy way to do a reality talent show. It has been used in cooking shows like Top Chef and Chopped and now shows up on the new ABC show The Taste. The twist is similar to the NBC singing talent show The Voice where the judges pick a team based on a blind test. The Taste uses a single blind taste of a dish. The two hour first show was a bit much, but I liked what I saw and might tune in again.

Cable Channel Does Good: Cancels Trashy Reality Show

Posted on by

created clip art with TV set and a prohibited symbol on itIn my last post I lamented the very bad trashy reality shows, like “Here comes Honey Boo Boo” on TLC, that some cable channels seem to be addicted to like crack. I wrote that these shows weren’t entertaining to me because I don’t like TV shows meant to make fun of people perceived to be in a lower social class. It seems that finally one channel reached a line it wouldn’t cross when it canceled a show about a serial baby maker.

Honey Boo Boo Killed Cable TV

I remember when I would be excited to get home from work to see some show on cable TV. I would forgo some purchase to make sure my cable bill was paid on time. But today I am no longer in love with cable TV. In fact shows like those that have Honey Boo Boo as a subject killed cable for me. I’ve decided that the crap on cable has overwhelmed the good and I can’t justify spending my money on crap any longer.

Lisa Whelchel & Michael Skupin – Bringing In The Geezer Viewers To Survivor

Lisa Whelchel on Survivor: Philippines

I’m not a huge fan of Survivor (I haven’t really watched it since season 11 Survivor: Guatemala) but I do like to see who will be playing in the new seasons. When I saw that CBS was hyping the fact that Lisa Whelchel would be a player I had to laugh to myself. Survivor is known for having good looking, model/bartenders as contestants but they do throw a bone to geezers like me either going old, bringing in past players like Michael Skupin, or in this case stunt casting with a former 80’s TV star like Whelchel. I really think that none of the youngsters on the island will really know who she is and probably still won’t if and when it is revealed by an older player.

CBS’ Con Job Known As Big Brother

Posted on by

image of CBS' Big Brother logoIf you’re an intelligent viewer then you should know that a majority of what passes as reality TV is actually scripted and planned out by the producers. One such con job is Big Brother on CBS. For years, what is shown on the network is not quite what really happens in the house. This week the producers really went over board to snow the viewing public.
