At Midnight Is A Good Time

A scene from @Midnight Show

One new show I’ve been digging this winter is @Midnight on Comedy Central. It is shown at Midnight (natch) after The Colbert Report and is hosted by hot Internet star Chris Hardwick. It’s a ‘game show’ made of a panel of three comedians riffing on whatever pop culture thing is found on the Internet the day of the show. While I know the game part of the show is bogus, I have a great time watching it. It’s reminds me of hanging with my friends and shooting the breeze.

Intelligence Is A Popcorn Action Spy Show

Josh Holloway and Meghan Ory in a scene from the pilot of ‘Intelligence’

Tuesday night I got to watch the pilot episode of Intelligence on CBS. This was one of the mid-season shows I’ve been waiting to start and now that it is here, I enjoyed it. It reminded me of the classic The Six Million Dollar Man show from back in the 1970s. Although the main character in this new show doesn’t have super human strength, one of the plot lines is the guy dealing with the technology he has in his brain. You should check it out if you can.

New TV Season About How I Thought It Would Be

We are a month into the new television season and it’s going about how I expected it. Some of the shows I didn’t care for I didn’t like and some got canceled right away and the ones I thought I would like, I did. There were a couple of new shows that I feel broke out from the crowd and one still to be seen.

Two Fox Comedies Debuted. One Is Better Than The Other

Posted on by

Logo for the FOX NetworkTuesday night had the premiere of two new comedies on FOX. ‘Dads’ and ‘Brooklyn Nine-Nine’ won’t the set the TV world on fire but in my view they weren’t terrible. It is tough to judge a new show based only on the first episode, but I thought Brooklyn Nine-Nine was slightly better. I do think both shows have promise.

The Bridge Is A Nice Twist On The Buddy Cop Drama Genre

Demian Bichir and Diane Kruger on FX’s The Bridge

The Bridge which premiered on the FX channel Wednesday night, isn’t just the usual chase-the-serial killer police drama. If that is all it was, it would be a boring show because it would be cliche. It is more like a gritty buddy cop show that inhabits the underbelly of their world – in this case the border area between El Paso, Tx and Juarez, Mexico. The show has a great cast and writers so it should be a good drama. Or at least not as stupid as the similar “The Following” on FX’s parent FOX.

FOX Slate Of New Shows Look Pretty Good

Posted on by

created image with words FOX Fall TV PreviewOn Monday, FOX presented its schedule for the 2013-2014 TV season and I thought overall their slate was better than what NBC presented on Sunday. The best one to me is ‘Almost Human’ with Karl Urban. I also thought all the new comedies were funny especially Brooklyn Nine-Nine with Andy Samburg. It will be interesting if these shows last the season but I think there is some potential.

The Following: I’m Out

Posted on by

image of the cast of the TV show The FollowingI wrote about the new FOX show The Following and how I liked the first episode but was concerned they couldn’t make a weekly series out of it. Through 11 episodes my concern has not only been proven correct but the Federal agents in the show have to be the worst agents in the history of the FBI. The writers continue to find ways to pull plot points out of thin air that make no sense as if they know what the final episode of the season will be and until then it is all filler. I am disappointed.

Golden Boy Starts With A Dumb Premise

Theo James, Kevin Alejandro and Chi McBride in Golden Boy

CBS gave new show “Vegas” a couple of weeks off to preview the new show “Golden Boy” in the Tuesday 10 PM slot after the NCIS block. Police procedurals are a staple of CBS so there isn’t really anything new on that front with “Golden Boy”. The gimmick it uses to try to make the show stand out from the crowd is actually the one thing I hated about the show. I really don’t see this being added to my regular viewing schedule.
