Miley Cyrus from her video for the song ‘Wrecking Ball’

The other day I checked out the video for Miley Cyrus’ song ‘Wrecking Ball’. I wanted to hate the song soooo bad. But the song is actually a pretty nice ballad. The video is over the top but the music is decent.

This Is NOT Your Daddy’s Elevator Music

image of The band Jingle Punks Hipster OrchestraElevator music is named for the instrumental arrangements of popular music used in common public spaces like medical offices, stores, and elevators. When I was kid there was a radio station that played a lot of elevator music so whenever I heard instrumental arrangements of popular music I get a bit nostalgic. One recent good tune is a cover of the Black Keys “Tighten Up” played by the group Jingle Punks Hipster Orchestra.

Well at least ‘Sliver’ was good for something

Image of the poster for SliverBack in 1993, I went to see the movie ‘Sliver’ in hopes that Sharon Stone would show her lady taco again. Hollywood is great at riding up to the line of soft core porn and making it seem like art. I really really really miss Jellyfish and you should too

One of the bands from the 1990’s that I miss the most is Jellyfish. They were a power pop group from California. I loved their mix of complex music and clever lyrics. Here is a video of a live performance of a song off their now classic “Spilt Milk” called “New Mistake”.

Jellyfish – New Mistake (1993)

The whole album is great. If you see it anywhere please pick it up. You won’t be sorry.

Royal Crescent Mob – Timebomb (1991)

When I was at Ohio State in the late 80’s (yes I’m old) Royal Crescent Mob was the boss local group who were going to get that big break. I remember going to a show at the OSU student union and hearing their punk-funk of “Get on the Bus” and “NaNaNa” – R.C. Mob’s live shows were killer. But I like this tune off their 2nd and last major label album “Midnight Rose’s” in 1991.
