We are a month into the new television season and it’s going about how I expected it. Some of the shows I didn’t care for I didn’t like and some got canceled right away and the ones I thought I would like, I did. There were a couple of new shows that I feel broke out from the crowd and one still to be seen.

Two Fox Comedies Debuted. One Is Better Than The Other

Posted on by

Logo for the FOX NetworkTuesday night had the premiere of two new comedies on FOX. ‘Dads’ and ‘Brooklyn Nine-Nine’ won’t the set the TV world on fire but in my view they weren’t terrible. It is tough to judge a new show based only on the first episode, but I thought Brooklyn Nine-Nine was slightly better. I do think both shows have promise.

FOX Slate Of New Shows Look Pretty Good

Posted on by

created image with words FOX Fall TV PreviewOn Monday, FOX presented its schedule for the 2013-2014 TV season and I thought overall their slate was better than what NBC presented on Sunday. The best one to me is ‘Almost Human’ with Karl Urban. I also thought all the new comedies were funny especially Brooklyn Nine-Nine with Andy Samburg. It will be interesting if these shows last the season but I think there is some potential.

The Following: I’m Out

image of the cast of the TV show The FollowingI wrote about the new FOX show The Following and how I liked the first episode but was concerned they couldn’t make a weekly series out of it. Through 11 episodes my concern has not only been proven correct but the Federal agents in the show have to be the worst agents in the history of the FBI. The writers continue to find ways to pull plot points out of thin air that make no sense as if they know what the final episode of the season will be and until then it is all filler. I am disappointed.

The Following Has A Strong Gimmick But Could Be Weak In Longevity

Cast of ‘The Following’ (2012)

I watched the premiere episode of FOX’s new drama “The Following” that stars Kevin Bacon. It seemed like a cross between CBS’s “Criminal Minds” and the case of crazy man Charles Manson. I did think that it was unnecessarily graphic but I liked the plot and the concept. I just don’t think the show will last as a weekly series.

My TV Mid-Season Report

created featured image for TV Mid-Season reportDecember to the beginning of the new year is usually the time the TV networks take a break from showing new episodes of shows. I decided to revisit some of the shows I highlighted back in August and returning shows I wanted to see again and give them a grade based on how they have been so far this season. As always YMMV.

Fox’s Alcatraz Adds New Dimension To The Rock

image of main leads to Alcatraz (2012)I have to admit that I tried out watching “Alcatraz” because one of the leads is Sarah Jones, who played the murder victim in one of my favorite episodes of “Cold Case”. Of course I liked that Sam Neill is also in the show and he doesn’t do a lot of TV roles. “Alcatraz” is an interesting take on the style of “Lost” (a big mystery) and “X-Files” (might be a huge conspiracy). So far I like it and if you liked “Lost” and “X-Files” then you will like “Alcatraz”.

Got to check out the premiere of two new show making their debut on Thursday night. “The Finder” is a spin-off of “Bones” on FOX and “Rob” is a 22 minute sitcom from comedian Rob Schneider on the CBS network. While I really liked the start of “The Finder”, “Rob” just wasn’t funny to me. If you want to find a new show to watch in the 2nd half of the 2011-2012 TV season trust “The Finder”.
