The Sexist Response To The Ghostbusters Reboot Makes Me Sad To Be A Man

Posted on by

image with words Nerd Rage is comingThe Ghostbusters reboot opens in theaters this weekend. If you listen to the haters it will be the worst movie of all time, even worse than Heaven’s Gate released in 1980. Deep in the negative reaction is a sad case of entitlement with an ample dose of sexism.

Trainwreck Is Good Description Of The Life Exposed In Amy Schumer’s New Movie

poster for Trainwreck (2015)The movie ‘Trainwreck‘ written by and staring comedian Amy Schumer had a good mixture of raunch and pathos one expects when viewing Schumer’s comedic exploits. Under the apt direction of Judd Apatow we get a more adult version of his film ‘Superbad‘ that flirts with a dark side not seen much in comedy films. While a bit uneven at times I think the film pulls off a nice balance of bathroom humor and heart.

In A Sea Of Comic Book Movies, Tammy Is An Island

poster for Tammy (2014)With a deluge of remakes and comic book movies at the theater, it gets hard to find a good adult film to watch. Tammy (2014) being called an adult film might be a stretch but it didn’t disappoint me and is funny screwball comedy.

Two Fox Comedies Debuted. One Is Better Than The Other

Logo for the FOX NetworkTuesday night had the premiere of two new comedies on FOX. ‘Dads’ and ‘Brooklyn Nine-Nine’ won’t the set the TV world on fire but in my view they weren’t terrible. It is tough to judge a new show based only on the first episode, but I thought Brooklyn Nine-Nine was slightly better. I do think both shows have promise.

There wasn’t anything on TV the other night so I ended up watching a couple of episodes of the new reality/comedy show ‘Never Ever Do This At Home‘. On first blush it just seemed like a total waste of time but then after thinking some more the show actually serves a purpose. It shows people who may lack common sense what happens when you goof around with different products. I think the show will only appeal to young men who don’t know any better – the perfect demographic for the Spike TV channel but it isn’t worthless.

ABC’s 2013 Upfront Least Interesting So Far

created graphic for ABC Fall TV PreviewI wasn’t that enthused with the many new shows ABC presented at their upfront presentation on Tuesday. Most of them were high concept low sustainability which means they would work as a movie or limited series but I don’t see them getting past the novelty. The only shows that interested me were Back in the Game, The Goldbergs, Trophy Wife, and Killer Women. ABC’s slate is the least interesting to me of the three networks I’ve reviewed so far.

FOX Slate Of New Shows Look Pretty Good

created image with words FOX Fall TV PreviewOn Monday, FOX presented its schedule for the 2013-2014 TV season and I thought overall their slate was better than what NBC presented on Sunday. The best one to me is ‘Almost Human’ with Karl Urban. I also thought all the new comedies were funny especially Brooklyn Nine-Nine with Andy Samburg. It will be interesting if these shows last the season but I think there is some potential.
