Josh Holloway and Meghan Ory in a scene from the pilot of ‘Intelligence’

Tuesday night I got to watch the pilot episode of Intelligence on CBS. This was one of the mid-season shows I’ve been waiting to start and now that it is here, I enjoyed it. It reminded me of the classic The Six Million Dollar Man show from back in the 1970s. Although the main character in this new show doesn’t have super human strength, one of the plot lines is the guy dealing with the technology he has in his brain. You should check it out if you can.

Under The Dome Is WTF Television

Posted on by

poster for Under the DomeOne of the TV shows I’ve been watching this summer is ‘Under the Dome’ on CBS. The show has grown on me as it shrugs off the usual tropes of series television. It is one part dystopian drama and one part supernatural mystery. It has been creating many ‘WTF’ moments for me in its first season even though I don’t think the show has much of a long term life after the novelty wears off.

Scene from the first episode of season 2 of Unforgettable

In a move that rarely happens in broadcast television, the CBS show ‘Unforgettable’ was canceled after the 2011-2012 season then it was uncanceled, rebooted, and premiered this past Sunday night for a summer run. Several members of the cast from season one returns, but the producers took the opportunity to reboot the series and model it on the old Law & Order: Criminal Intent show. I see some promise in the reboot and I’m extremely glad Poppy Montgomery is back on my TV.

CBS & Big Brother 15 – Profiting From Racism, Sexism, And Homophobia

Posted on by

Big Brother logoThe big news with the current season of Big Brother on CBS is not even two weeks into the 3 month game, we have a serious controversy. Several of the houseguests are nasty people who spew some nasty racist, homophobic, and sexist comments that went out live over the 24 hour feeds. It hit the Internet and led, post Paula Deen, to be picked up by several news organizations. That made CBS and the producers have to offer public statements and spend their Sunday episode on the issue. Being a long time viewer of the show, I can tell you that no one should be surprised by the ugliness. CBS hires awful people and profit from that awfulness.

Big Brother Starts With New Stuff & Same Old Definition

Posted on by

Big Brother logoBig Brother started its 15th cycle Wednesday night (6/26) and like other seasons the show changed some things. They are having a longer season, a new house, and at least one interesting game twist. Even after spending more cash on the show, CBS still broadcasts it in Standard Definition. Time will tell if the changes make for an improved show but it’s still a good summer time waster. At least until they get down to the last few people.

Best Of Broadway On The TONY Awards

created image of Tony Awards logo with dateSunday June 9th on CBS will be the 67th Tony Awards. The Tonys recognize the best of Broadway for the season. I like the award show because you get a taste of the plays and musicals playing that year. I also like that Neil Patrick Harris will be hosting for the fourth time. He always brings an energy to the telecast. In honor of the Tony Awards I decided to post a video from the 2000 awards. It is the third part of the musical ‘Contact’ also subtitled ‘Contact’ to the tune ‘Simply Irresistible‘ by Robert Palmer.

CBS Keeps It Up For The Upcoming Fall TV Season

Posted on by

created image with the words CBS Fall TV PreviewCBS, aka The Tiffany Network, didn’t have much to fix with it’s 2013-2014 TV schedule. It plans on expanding their comedy programing on Thursday nights by moving “Person of Interest” to Tuesday night after the NCIS shows. Like the other networks, CBS seems to have a couple of dramas that are movie concepts put into a weekly series format. The comedies I liked were The Millers, Mom, and The Crazy Ones. On the drama side the only one that interested me was “Intelligence”.

Death Comes Before Rebirth In TV World

Some TV shows canceled this week
Shows I watched that were canceled this week (clockwise from l to r) Body of Proof, Whitney, Vegas, & Happy Endings

Next week the networks will be presenting their new schedules for the 2013-2014 TV season. In order to make room for new shows, the networks have to cancel current shows. This time of year is tough for me because they will always cancel a show I liked or not cancel a show I hated. Here are some thoughts on a selected list of shows that I watched and were canceled.
