No I Don’t Trust Andrew Mayne

Andrew Mayne

Andrew Mayne is a magician, illusion designer and filmmaker. He has worked for Penn & Teller and the Amazing Randi. He has a new show on A&E titled ‘Don’t Trust Andrew Mayne‘. I normally like magic shows but for some reason Mayne’s show rubs me the wrong way. The way the show is shot and edited actually makes the illusions seem fake or staged.

Most Cable Channels Are Worthless

Posted on by

logo for Rehab Addicy on DIY channelCable TV is expensive. Most standard packages include hundreds of channels but you have to ask yourself, are those channels worth it. The current pricing scheme the industry uses means your hundred dollar payment supports a lot of filler material that seem to me to be only a video version of radio – something you turn on for background noise when cleaning the house or changing the oil in your car. Most cable channels aren’t worth your time or expense.

There wasn’t anything on TV the other night so I ended up watching a couple of episodes of the new reality/comedy show ‘Never Ever Do This At Home‘. On first blush it just seemed like a total waste of time but then after thinking some more the show actually serves a purpose. It shows people who may lack common sense what happens when you goof around with different products. I think the show will only appeal to young men who don’t know any better – the perfect demographic for the Spike TV channel but it isn’t worthless.

Cable Channel Does Good: Cancels Trashy Reality Show

Posted on by

created clip art with TV set and a prohibited symbol on itIn my last post I lamented the very bad trashy reality shows, like “Here comes Honey Boo Boo” on TLC, that some cable channels seem to be addicted to like crack. I wrote that these shows weren’t entertaining to me because I don’t like TV shows meant to make fun of people perceived to be in a lower social class. It seems that finally one channel reached a line it wouldn’t cross when it canceled a show about a serial baby maker.

Honey Boo Boo Killed Cable

Honey Boo Boo Killed Cable TV

I remember when I would be excited to get home from work to see some show on cable TV. I would forgo some purchase to make sure my cable bill was paid on time. But today I am no longer in love with cable TV. In fact shows like those that have Honey Boo Boo as a subject killed cable for me. I’ve decided that the crap on cable has overwhelmed the good and I can’t justify spending my money on crap any longer.

Falling Skies Season 2 Finale Even Shocked Me

Noah Wyle and Will Patton on Falling Skies

I admit I’m a jaded TV watcher. I’ve seen so many of these post-apocalyptic shows like “Falling Skies” and then I get disappointed when they hold back their punches or take the easy way out. “Falling Skies” has been my favorite since season 1 because it hasn’t been mushy. The season 2 finale on August 19th looked like it might wimp out but the cliffhanger blew me away. I can’t wait for season 3 next summer.

Bunheads Is A Nice Diamond In The Rough At ABC Family

Cast of Bunheads (2012)

I am not a normal viewer of the ABC Family cable channel with its heavy focus on teen girls both as an audience and subject matter of their shows. The only logical reason for watching the “Bunheads” premiere Monday night was the show was created and scripted by Amy Sherman-Palladino who also created “Gilmore Girls”, and to see Tony winner Sutton Foster as the lead. The pilot was excellent but I hope it doesn’t focus too much on the teen girls in the cast at the expense of Foster and the other adults.

Girls Guide To Depravity? Not So Much…

Sally Golan & Rebecca Blumhagen – stars of The Girl’s Guide to Depravity

The other day I watched a few episodes of the Cinemax After Dark series ‘The Girl’s Guide to Depravity’, based on a Internet blog. While the premise was interesting and the two leads are attractive, the show was a turn off for me. Believe it or not, the main thing against the show are the sex scenes. They aren’t needed and take away from the plot of the show.
