Continuum Is All Kinds Of Gray

I don’t know how they do it but the Canadians just seem to know how to do Sci-Fi TV shows. I recently started watching ‘Continuum‘, which returns for a 2nd season on the Syfy channel June 7th here in the US, and it’s clearly my new favorite import. Think of a Terminator and Timecop mashup where there is no black & white good guys vs. bad guys. Continuum has a police detective working for a corporate dictatorship in 2077 trying to find and stop a group of freedom fighter terrorists who have traveled back to 2012 to start their revolution. I think the show would be way too cliche and cheesy if it was just a battle of good guy vs. bad guy. Who do you root for? It looks like it will be fun to find out.

Some TV shows canceled this week
Shows I watched that were canceled this week (clockwise from l to r) Body of Proof, Whitney, Vegas, & Happy Endings

Next week the networks will be presenting their new schedules for the 2013-2014 TV season. In order to make room for new shows, the networks have to cancel current shows. This time of year is tough for me because they will always cancel a show I liked or not cancel a show I hated. Here are some thoughts on a selected list of shows that I watched and were canceled.

I’m Sorry But Kat Dennings Line Reading Sucks

Kat Dennings on 2 Broke Girls

I didn’t care for the sitcom ‘2 Broke Girls‘ that debuted on CBS last season. The plots were tired, the jokes were obvious, and the acting generally was bad. The other night I watched another episode and while the show has shown some improvement since season 1, Kat Dennings, who plays Max, is the weak link on the show and it’s just a deal breaker for me.

Wedding Band – Could It Be More Than The Title?

Posted on by

image of Wedding Band show logo 2012TBS premiered a news series Saturday night titled “Wedding Band” starring Brian Austin Greene and Peter Cambor. It is billed as a comedy drama but it isn’t jokey jokey but more in the same vein as the previous TBS show “The Boys”. The pilot didn’t bowl me over but it wasn’t terrible. It actually has a great cast but I’m concerned about the show being an hour for each episode and the concept doesn’t seem like it could last more than a season if that.

Castle Episode Made My Head Hurt

Nathan Fillion, as Richard Castle, shooting a gun

I’m a fan of Castle on ABC. I like the tone of the procedural with bits of funny sprinkled within well thought out plots that keep me guessing. That was until the episode this past Monday 10/29 titled ‘Probable Cause‘. While the funny was still around, the plot of the episode as well as the ending just didn’t meet the usual level I expect from the show.

Nashville Has Been Seen Before But Connie Britton Is Great

image of the poster for the ABC show NashvilleWednesday night had the debut of a new drama on ABC called Nashville. It stars Connie Britton and Hayden Panettiere as dueling country music singers. While I loved Britton and some of the other cast members, there is nothing really new in the stories offered in the pilot.

Get Rid Of The Teen Angst And Revolution Might Be A Good Show

Worst thing about Revolution: Charlie Matheson

I watched a couple of episodes of the new NBC drama Revolution and it wasn’t bad overall. Like all of these HUGE MYSTERY shows the start can be confusing. There is, however, one particular character on the show who could make or break it for me for future viewing. If they can get rid of the teen angst or tone it down I might keep watching.

image of 2012-2013 Returning TV Show preview badgeThe 2012-2013 TV season starts next month and I wanted to give my thoughts on some returning network shows that I’ve watched in the past and plan on watching again. These thoughts are mine alone and your mileage may vary.

The end of the week in the upcoming season isn’t as packed for me as the beginning of the week.
