I Don’t Want Harrison Ford In The Next Star Wars Movie

Original Star Wars trilogy cast (clockwise l-r)Harrison Ford, David Prowse, Peter Mayhew, Mark Hamill, Kenny Baker, and Carrie Fisher – and yes Anthony Daniels is missing

Since Disney bought the rights to Star Wars and plan on doing new films, there have been questions about if the stars of the original trilogy would appear in them. I took it as fact that Harrison Ford would run far away since he soured on the franchise after doing Revenge of the Jedi. In one interview years ago, Ford said he asked to have Solo killed off. In an interview with David Letterman last week Ford now claims he’s never been asked to return to the role and wouldn’t mind doing it. Screw Ford. I don’t want him in the next film.

More Interesting Than The Awards Themselves

Posted on by

image of the SAG Awards logoAwards shows bore me. Either the people who I want to win don’t or the awards are kind of faked like the Golden Globes. The SAG Awards held on Sunday night is another opportunity for the best of Hollywood to get dressed up and party. Downton Abbey won for best ensemble cast in a drama which was a bit of shocker. My favorite part is the red carpet and seeing what different people picked to wear to the event. Here is a gallery of the looks that caught my eye or someone I support as a fan. For me the best look was from Jennifer Lawrence but YMMV.

I’m Sorry But Kat Dennings Line Reading Sucks

Kat Dennings on 2 Broke Girls

I didn’t care for the sitcom ‘2 Broke Girls‘ that debuted on CBS last season. The plots were tired, the jokes were obvious, and the acting generally was bad. The other night I watched another episode and while the show has shown some improvement since season 1, Kat Dennings, who plays Max, is the weak link on the show and it’s just a deal breaker for me.

I Don’t Get Chelsea Handler

Chelsea Handler

Chelsea Handler is a writer, stand-up comedian, actress, TV host, and producer who’s big claim to fame is her late night talk show Chelsea Lately on the E! channel. I like late night TV shows (well except for the Tonight Show) yet I don’t like Handler’s show. I’ve tried to watch it several times over the years – usually to see a particular guest. I just don’t think she or her show his funny. I guess I just don’t get Chelsea Handler.

Lisa Whelchel & Michael Skupin – Bringing In The Geezer Viewers To Survivor

Lisa Whelchel on Survivor: Philippines

I’m not a huge fan of Survivor (I haven’t really watched it since season 11 Survivor: Guatemala) but I do like to see who will be playing in the new seasons. When I saw that CBS was hyping the fact that Lisa Whelchel would be a player I had to laugh to myself. Survivor is known for having good looking, model/bartenders as contestants but they do throw a bone to geezers like me either going old, bringing in past players like Michael Skupin, or in this case stunt casting with a former 80′s TV star like Whelchel. I really think that none of the youngsters on the island will really know who she is and probably still won’t if and when it is revealed by an older player.

Andy Griffith, America’s Favorite Sheriff Has Died

Andy Griffith

I was sad to learn today that actor Andy Griffith died at the age of 86. Many people over the generations loved Griffith’s characters from the Sheriff of Mayberry in the 1960′s to Matlock the lawyer in the 1980′s. He got his start doing stand up comedy and one of my favorite bits is when he plays a country person describing the game of football and one of his TV shows I really liked was “Salvage 1″ back in 1979.

Molly vs Winona: Pick A Side

Posted on by

image of Molly Ringwald and Winona RyderWhen I was coming of age in the 1980′s two actresses pretty much spoke for my generation. Molly Ringwald was the girl next door who you would bring home to meet your mother while Winona Ryder was the Goth chick who was your buddy and was fun to hang out with. I liked or rather loved them both as they fit into my then duel puberty personality. I wanted to date both of them but kind of figured Molly would blow me off and I would have tons of laughs with Winona as we would have a deep platonic relationship. Who would you pick if you had a chance to date them?

Kids In The Hall On The Nerdist Channel Is The Best

Bruce McCulloch & Mark McKinney
from Kids in the Hall

One of my favorite shows on the new Nerdist YouTube channel, besides All Star Bowling, is about classic Kids in the Hall sketches that include some brief commentary from the Kids themselves. These short videos that include the full sketch lets me enjoy one of my favorite comedy teams again plus I get to, probably, learn something about how the sketch was created.

Old Movie Sunday: Hostesses With The Mostess Of Fun In Mind

image of Come Fly With Me posterThe other day I finally was able to see an uncut version of the 1963 film “Come Fly With Me” that starred Dolores Hart. At the time she was a rising star in Hollywood and had even been in a movie with Elvis Presley. Hart eventually gave up a film career to become a nun. “Come Fly With Me” is a romantic comedy with a 1950′s tone. Hart and the two other women leads are of course looking for a man to marry as women in film, at this time, usually did. I like these kinds of movies as some people like trashy romance novels, sure there is a formula, but it’s candy for the brain. It feels good to watch it but adds nothing of substance that lasts.

Before She Was Cora Crawley, Elizabeth McGovern Shined As Caddie Winger In A 1984 Film

Elizabeth McGovern in ‘Racing with the Moon’

Big fan of the British import “Downton Abbey” currently showing the 2nd season here in the US on PBS. I was pleased to see Elizabeth McGovern as one of the leads as Cora Crawley, Countess of Grantham. I have been a big fan of McGovern for decades and the one film of her’s that is my favorite is “Racing with the Moon” released in 1984. She played the lead Caddie Winger who catches the male lead Sean Penn’s eye. Every time I see McGovern on screen I end up watching “Racing with the Moon” again. Anyone who enjoys her Cora on Downton Abbey should see all her previous films including this one.
