The BBC announced, over the weekend, that actor Jodie Whittaker will become the 13th Doctor on the iconic Doctor Who TV series. I think it is a great choice and might even lead me to watch the series again.
I admit I’ve been a casual fan of Doctor Who for years. I usually have tried to watch the Christmas specials and some episodes here and there. I’ve also tried to keep up on who is playing the good Doctor.
During the Christmas special this year the Doctor will be regenerating as the current actor, Peter Capaldi, leaves the show.
Of course part of the Doctor Who fan base is up in arms. Nerds really hate change. As a friend on Facebook humorously put it, “It’s a physical impossibility that a two hearted alien who travels through time and who periodically regenerates an entirely different looking body could change gender in that process. It makes no scientific sense and I’m going to take my ball home as a result!”
I also like that Chris Chibnall is replacing Steven Moffat as the showrunner. I just never cared for Moffat’s brand of story telling.
I think all of this change will add to the freshness of the new series and open the door to more story possibilities. It might lead me to watch more than my usual quota of episodes.
Good Luck to Jodie Whittaker
