Falling Skies Season 2 Finale Even Shocked Me

I admit I’m a jaded TV watcher. I’ve seen so many of these post-apocalyptic shows like “Falling Skies” and then I get disappointed when they hold back their punches or take the easy way out. “Falling Skies” has been my favorite since season 1 because it hasn’t been mushy. The season 2 finale on August 19th looked like it might wimp out but the cliffhanger blew me away. I can’t wait for season 3 next summer.

“Falling Skies” debuted in 2011 and they don’t waste any time in their 10 episode seasons. There isn’t any obvious filler. The show isn’t shy about killing off a cast member to serve the story. The deaths aren’t the usual Red Shirt deaths either – guy shows up in an episode and everyone knows him then he dies a terrible death and the next episode it’s as if he never existed. The show also likes to paint itself into a corner. You wonder how will they get out of it.

THAT is what I love about a good drama – taking the risks and raising the stakes.

I thought I might be disappointed by the end of the season finale. The major arc was tied up and after the final commercial it all had the sense of being over. I speculated the show was filmed before they knew they were picked up for a 3rd season and unlike some shows the producers wanted to tie up all the loose ends some what in case it didn’t come back.

The TV promo said watch for the last five minutes and it didn’t lie. The twist/cliffhanger was excellent and it even shocked my jaded heart.

“Falling Skies” is what FOX’s defunct “Terra Nova” could’ve been if that show had taken more risks. This is why the better TV is on the cable networks.

I love your site header; I need more cowbell-lol! I’m new here, but I’m not new to the drama that’s carried Falling Skies into a successful second season finale. I too was a little afraid that the finale wasn’t going to be all that great, and I thought I was going to be able to predict it all. Not even half way through the finale, I stopped watching it in my bedroom and kicked my husband off the big screen in the front room. It’s times like this that I’m delighted my Hopper lets me start something at one TV and finish it at the next. Even my husband stayed and watched the finale with me, even though he spent the majority of this season making fun of Jimmy’s death on the show. I think the new aliens are going to be like the police of the Universe, and several of my co-workers at Dish agree with me. However, one guy thinks that the new aliens are in charge of the evil overlords, and they’re coming to lay down the law on the puny humans. I’m a little sad that we’re going to have to wait forever for season three to start; I just hope the writers make this anticipation worth it!
