I don’t get to see Broadway shows in person and I’ve never been to the actual Broadway – yet. But each year I check out the Tony awards shown on CBS. It is my chance to sample the best of Broadway from my couch. I have some favorite performances and hope that the 2012 edition will add to them.

In school we did a musical each year so I’m familiar with the classics, but I’ve only actually seen one Broadway show in person and that was in Toronto Canada when I saw Phantom of the Opera in 1998. The show performances shown during the Tony Award telecast are the next best thing to being there and I look forward to the award show each year.

Here is a few of my favorite performances shown on the Tony awards show (in no particular order):

Willkommen from “Cabaret” (1998)
(with Alan Cumming)

Defying Gravity from “Wicked” (2004)
(with Idina Menzel & Kristin Chenoweth)

Hair from “Hair” (2009)
(with Gavin Creel & Will Swenson)

Anything Goes from “Anything Goes” (2011)
(with Sutton Foster)

The 2012 Tony Awards will be shown on CBS live on June 10th
